Artful Dodger of Sarasota, FL - Logo Design and Sign by Julie Schwartz When a new gift shop opened in a small, up-scale shopping village overlooking the Sarasota Bay, it was to carry exclusive lines of functional art from many artisans, including Julie's Classic Bookmark Collection, framed art, and writing papers. The owners commissioned Julie to design a logo embracing the store's vision. She made mock-ups in various styles, a few of which can be seen here: [mock-up 1] [mock-up 2] The design chosen was the butterfly shown here ( left). In addition to the main sign, a second was created using a rectangular format for the back of the store that faced the parking area and the main street. [Second Sign]

The sign above was designed for a local Dance Studio. Notice the ballet dancer in each letter of the word. Each letter shows the progression of a dance; the ballerina's hair gets a little more mussed with each step. This style of lettering is an exclusive design of Julie's. The pen and ink sketch below of the Ca'd'Zan, the home of circus magnate John Ringling, was a commissioned work for the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art. Prints were sold in frames and as note cards sets in the museum's gift shop. In addition, Julie also created four pen and ink drawings of Ringling Bros. circus wagons, and one of a cherub statue in the museum's famous rose garden which were also used on note card sets.
