This Calligraphy Sampler was hand-lettered by Julie Schwartz. It shows some of the more popular lettering styles by their names, useful when ordering custom special-orders and personalized art.

When a new gift shop opened in a small, up-scale shopping village overlooking the Sarasota Bay, it wanted to carry exclusive lines of functional art from many artisans, including Julie's Classic Poetic Gifts, Bookmark Collection, Framed Art, and Stationery. To embrace the vision of the new store's image, the owners commissioned Julie to design a logo and then asked her to hand-paint the signs as well. After making mock-ups in various styles, (a few of which can be seen here [mock-ups] ) the design chosen was the butterfly shown above. In addition to the main sign, a second was created using a rectangular format for the back of the store that faced the parking area and the main street. [Second Sign]

Ringling Museum of Art of Sarasota, FL Pen and Ink by Julie Schwartz The pen and ink sketch above of the Ca'd'Zan, the home of circus magnate John Ringling, was a commissioned work for the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art for the museum's gift shops. In addition, Julie created a pen and ink drawing of a cherub statue in the museum's famous Rose Garden as well as four drawings of Ringling Bros. circus wagons. Prints were sold as framed wall decor and in note cards sets for the Ringling Museum Gift Shop and the Ringling Circus Museum Gift Shop. Dance Studio of Sarasota, FL Logo Design and Sign Painting by Julie Schwartz Notice the ballet dancer in each letter of the word. The sign above was designed and hand-painted for a local Dance Studio. There is a dancer within each letter of the word "Ballet" showing the progression of a dance. In a life-like fashion, the ballerina's hair gets a little more mussed with each step, in each letter. This is one of Julie's original lettering designs.
