January first ... the first day of a new year, the first day of a "fresh start." This day that we celebrate each year is not a day designated nor ordained by God, it is just a day chosen by men to log the passage of time... to take a seemingly endless quantity of days and break them up, dividing "time" into manageable bits and calculable segments.

But still there is something freeing about beginning a new year. We can put our past behind us with all our pain, our blunders, and our regrets. We can close (or maybe even slam!) the door of the past just as we close the final page of our calendars and toss them into the trash of "last year."

The new year is laid out before us as a fresh, unblemished book of days ready, no eagerly awaiting our opening each page of new beginnings. We anticipate filling the days of this new year with progress and success! Hoping that, on the next December 31st, as we close the door on the year, we can gently lower the final page on a fulfilling and satisfying year ~ one with no regrets, no blunders, and little or no pain. Ahhh, sweet serenity.

That is our hope, anyway ... our "New Year Resolution." Maybe this year will be the year of sweet satisfaction. If we seek God with all our heart and strive to know and do His will, we will be fulfilled.

"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon Me, and ye shall go and pray unto Me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek Me, and find Me, when ye shall search for Me with all your heart." (Jeremiah 29:11-13)
