Sometimes I get lost in the hustle and bustle of life and I forget to stop and enjoy the moment...until it's too late...until I sit on the bed beside my sleeping child and I wonder where the day went...and I wish I had spent more time with you...and I wish I could "rewind" the day and do it differently...with more time and attention spent on you...on us...on growth. 

And I realize another day in your life is gone forever, and that one day, before too long, all of those days will be gone. You'll be grown and you will have a life filled with hustle and bustle, too...and there will be no time for "us." 

And when I realize this my heart aches, and my throat throbs with regret...and I want to wake you up, and hold you. But I don't. And so I resolve, as I have so many times before, to spend more time with you...enjoy you...be your friend and you, mine...To show more love and encouragement...to praise more and correct less...To get to know you all the way through. 

Dear God, if I ever ask anything of You in my life, I ask this now...slow me down! Teach me to be the kind of parent I long to be...for my child...for me.
