To His Mother
When I look in the eyes of the man I adore, I can't help but wonder of his life before When he was a baby who'd cuddle and coo, And the loving and starry-eyed mother was you.
You'd hold him and kiss him and tickle his toes, Then gently you'd rock him 'til his eyes would close. You'd sing him a lullaby, tuck him in bed, And ever so softly you'd kiss his wee head.
And when he would toddle, your shadow he'd be, Holding onto your skirt, stand precariously. So soon he was running and playing outside; You'd watch through the window, your heart filled with pride.
And when he was frightened and cried in the night, You'd comfort him softly and snuggle him tight; You'd draw him close to you, his tiny head near, Get rid of the "monsters" and wipe a small tear.
When bullies would tease him, as boys sometimes do, And send him away, he'd come dragging to you. You'd kneel down beside him, and holding him tight, You'd tell him that everything would be all right.
Together you'd play a game "only for two," And make him feel wanted and special to you. Because of your loving and wonder way You helped mold the man that I love today.
